NECK PAIN
Neck pain can be caused by a variety of things. It can range from a simple sprain to a herniated disc. It can also be caused by arthritic changes related to aging. One of the common causes of neck pain in our practice is dues to herniated discs.
BACK PAIN
Many people at some point in life suffer from back pain. Much of the time the condition is self limiting and people recover from it on their own. At times, especially with longer lasting pain, such as disc herniations, surgery may be required.
NON SURGICAL TREATMENT
The majority of our patients do not require surgery. They can be treated by conservative means. This could include therapy, medication and/or injections.
SURGICAL INTERVENTION
If surgery is indicated, to most definitively treat the patients condition, the majority of time, it can be done using advanced minimally invasive techniques and done on an out patient basis

Consults / Evaluations
As a new patient, you will be evaluated by our physician assistant and then seen by Dr. Moskovitz. During the evaluation we will take a history, do a physical examination and review the diagnostic tests such as MRI scans. Dr. Moskovitz will then formulate a diagnosis and discuss this and your treatment options with you.
X-Rays
We have digital X-ray facilities on site with the capabilities of doing specialized imaging.
MRI Review
We ask every patient to bring with them their MRI scans to the appointment. Dr. Moskovitz reads every MRI scan and formulates an independant opinion.
Operative Care
Dr. Moskovitz utilizes advanced techniques in minimally invasive neck and back surgery. This is designed to give patients the most rapid recovery with the best outcome. Over 95% of our patients go home within several hours after surgery.

Dr. Moskovitz has served as the president of the Medical Staff, Chairman of the Department of Surgery and Chief of Orthopedic Surgery at Morton Plant Hospital. During his term as the Chief, Morton Plant Hospital was selected as one of the Top 100 Orthopedic Hospitals out of 6000 nationwide.

OUR SURGICAL TREATMENTS
Artificial Disk Replacement
One of the latest techniques in spine surgery is AD Replacement. During this procedure a herniated or diseased disk is removed and is replaced with an artificial disk. The new disk is made out of titanium or cobalt chrome and ultra high molecular weight polyethylene. The average blood loss using minimally invasive technique is about one tablespoon. The advantage of a disk replacement is that it is a more natural operation that allows for preservation of motion. Dr. Moskovitz has done hundreds of disk replacements and has taught this technique to many other surgeons. Patients can expect to go home about three hours after surgery and can shower by the next morning. They can usually resume driving a week later. Patients are asked to do simple range of motion exercises starting a week after surgery and can expect an improved range of motion by three to six weeks after surgery. Most patients can expect to feel better two to six weeks post surgery.
With this technique patients do not need to wear a hard collar and can use a soft collar for the first week or when driving or riding in a car.
Anterior Cervical Diskectomy and Fusion (ACDF)
If there is a herniated disk in the neck, one of the surgeries that can be performed is an ACDF. During this procedure, the doctor removes the damaged or arthritic disk and replaces it with a bone graft and stabilizes the area with a titanium plate or a spinal cage. The average blood loss using minimally invasive technique is about one tablespoon.
Patients can expect to feel better about 2 weeks after surgery and are mostly healed by six weeks post surgery. Most people resume driving about one week after surgery and return to work from one to four weeks after surgery depending on the demands of their occupation.
With this technique patients do not need to wear a hard collar and can use a soft collar for the first week or when driving or riding in a car.
Low Back Microdiscectomy
This advanced minimally invasive surgery has an incision that is less than one inch in size. The specific technique used by Dr. Moskovitz does not cut across any muscles and minimizes scar tissue formation. The average blood loss is one to two teaspoons and most patients can start showering that evening, and resume driving four to five days later. Return to work can be anywhere from one to four weeks depending on the demands of their occupation. Dr. Moskovitz has taught this technique to other surgeons nationally and internationally.
